Please help the National Park Service (NPS) tell the story and honor the legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson. You’re invited to share your feedback on exhibit designs at an open house on August 14.
The Carter G. Woodson Home National Historic Site commemorates the life and legacy of Dr. Carter G. Woodson, known as the “Father of Black History” and the creator of Negro History Week, which later became Black History Month.
Dr. Woodson lived and wrote many of his defining works in a brick rowhouse in D.C.’s Shaw neighborhood. The NPS acquired the house in 2005 and has been working in partnership with the Association for the Study of African American Life and History (ASALH) to rehabilitate Dr. Woodson’s home and two adjacent rowhouses, and to design exhibits.
Once complete, this project will more fully tell the story of how Dr. Woodson started a movement to uplift people through knowledge. The exhibit designs will be on display for public feedback from 6-8 p.m. with a formal presentation from 6:30-7 p.m.
