Starting this year off strong with our first #AfricanAmericansandLabor Black Fact, featuring Asa Philip Randolph!!

Asa Philip Randolph was a groundbreaking American labor unionist and civil rights activist. In 1925, he organized and led the Brotherhood of Sleeping Car Porters, the first successful African American-led labor union, championing the rights of Black workers in a segregated labor market. A prominent voice in both the early Civil Rights Movement and the Labor Movement, Randolph’s leadership extended beyond union organizing, as he advocated for racial equality, economic justice, and nonviolent protest. His work laid a foundation for future movements, influencing the fight for civil rights and fair labor practices nationwide.
