Join the U.S. Department of the Interior and the National Park Service on Tuesday, May 28, at 1PM ET for a virtual celebration in honor of National Historic Preservation Month. This virtual event will highlight recent additions to the National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom and the African American Civil Rights grant program. Attendees will hear from senior Department of the Interior leaders and National Park Service staff regarding important upcoming funding opportunities to support historic preservation projects and the importance of protecting and preserving a more complete story of America.
The National Underground Railroad Network to Freedom consists of over 700 listings in 39 states, plus Washington D.C. and the U.S. Virgin Islands. The program works in collaboration with local, state and federal entities, as well as individuals and organizations to create a “network” of sites, facilities, and programs with a verifiable connection to the Underground Railroad.
The African American Civil Rights (AACR) provides grants to States, Tribes, local governments, and nonprofits for projects that document, interpret, and preserve sites and stories related to the African American struggle to gain equal rights as citizens.
