The Program in Black Studies at Middlebury College invites applications for a two-year Visiting Assistant Professor with a start date of September 2025. This position is open in specialization and geographic areas of study in the humanities and social sciences. The successful candidate will teach core courses in the Program in addition to courses in their area of specialization. We particularly encourage applications from candidates whose scholarship and teaching agenda encompasses a broad spectrum of scholarship and creative activities grounded in Black Studies, Africana Studies, and African American Studies. The successful candidate will contribute to the Black Studies Program, conduct original research, and engage in departmental activities. The typical teaching load for a full-time visiting professor is 2 courses in the fall semester, 2 courses in the spring semester in the fist year, followed by the same schedule in the fall and spring and one additional course in Winter Term the following year.

Qualifications
Exceptional candidates should hold a terminal degree (Ph.D.) in African American Studies, Africana Studies, African Diaspora Studies, American Studies or Ethnic Studies with demonstrated expertise in teaching African American, Africana, or African Diaspora Studies. A strong commitment to excellence in teaching within a liberal arts college setting is crucial for this position.
