ASALH: Association for the Study of African American Life and History
"If white American women, with all their natural and acquired advantages, need the ballot, that right protective of all other rights; if Anglo Saxons have been helped by it... how much more do black Americans, male and female need the strong defense of a vote to help secure them their right to life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness?"Adella Hunt Logan (1863–1915) was a dedicated African American educator, suffragist, and writer who fought for racial and gender equality at a time when Black women were often excluded from both movements. A graduate of Atlanta University, she became a faculty member at Tuskegee Institute and co-founded the Tuskegee Woman’s Club, which was part of the National Association of Colored Women’s Clubs. Logan used her platform to advocate for Black women’s voting rights, contributing powerful essays to The Crisis and The Colored American Magazine. She challenged the racism of the mainstream suffrage movement and worked tirelessly to ensure that Black women’s voices were heard. Her legacy remains a vital part of the struggle for justice and equality in both Black history and the women’s rights movement.Learn More: www.georgiaencyclopedia.org/articles/history-archaeology/adella-hunt-logan/#ASALH #BlackFacts #AfricanAmericansAndLabor #AdellaHuntLogan ...
