Robert Johnson (1911-1938) is one of the most enigmatic figures in music history, particularly in the realm of blues. Born in Mississippi, his life was tragically brief, but his impact immense. Despite recording only 29 songs, his mastery of the Delta blues style left an indelible mark on American music. Phillis Wheatley, born in West Africa and enslaved in Boston, Massachusetts, rose to prominence as the first African American and one of the earliest women to publish a book of poetry in the United States. Her poetry not only showcased her mastery of the English language but also addressed themes of liberty, humanity, and Christian spirituality.
